Howard D. Vancil

Howard D. Vancil, 69, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:17 A.M., Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Howard was a retired dragline operator for the coal mines and had worked at Consol #2 mine.  He was a member of Sunfield Methodist Church.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.  He was a member of Du Quoin VFW Post 513 and UMW of A Local 9721.
He was born February 9, 1933 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Miles and Annabell (Bailey) Vancil.
He married Nellie Cook on February 23, 1957 at Sunfield, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one daughter - Linda Denton and husband Roger of Pinckneyville, two sons - Joey Vancil and wife Stacey of Du Quoin and Leslie Vancil and wife Susan of Pinckneyville, two brothers - Sam Vancil and wife Elaine of Du Quoin and Bill Vancil and wife Norma of Du Quoin, grandchildren - Megan and Will Denton, Joel and Abigail Vancil, and Justin Vancil.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services were at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 14, 2002 at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Jerry Dunn officiating.  Those attending the service were asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military rites were conducted by Du Quoin VFW Post 513.
